Meet Compassion. Meet Mattie.

Meet one of our certified nursing assistants, Mattie. We asked her some questions about her compassionate work and some fun, inspiring questions to get to know her.

Q1 What’s your job title? My title is Certified Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide for Harbor Hospice

Q2 What sort of duties do you have at work? My main duties are to give care to my patients. To provide a safe and pleasant atmosphere during there private time.  Which may consist of bathing,  such as giving a shower, sponge bath assistance with brushing their teeth, and even assistance with feeding a patient. I also help the case coordinator with wound care.

Q3 Do you have any mentors in your professional life? Yes, I did have a mentor,  she is long gone now. I remember how patient she was when I presented her with a question. And then she would take the time out to show me the proper procedure.

Q4 Who inspires you? All the cena’s at Hospice. And one patient, in particular, had a beautiful spirit and was always up-lifted no matter how she felt. I will surely miss her.

Q5 What kind of music do you like? My most favorite would be gospel,  then there is jazz, a little R&B doesn’t hurt either.

Q6 What’s the best place you’ve traveled to? Oklahoma.

Q7 What’s the best book you’ve read recently? Always will be the Bible.

Q8 What’s the most exciting part of your job? Laughing with my patients, and having them share their life’s with me

Q9 Where did you work before this position? Our Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence.

Q10 What’s your most-used productivity hack? My card.

Q11 What animal would you consider your spirit animal? A beautiful white dove.

Q12 What’s something you’re proud of? Proud of being myself.

Q13 What’s your favorite food? Shrimp and Spaghetti.

Q14 Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies? Singing, sewing, and painting.

Q15 Do you have any pets? One little dog and two little birds.

Q16 Are you a coffee or tea person? Not really.  Although sometimes I will drink a little tea.

Q17 What’s something you find challenging about your work? The main challenge would be dealing with an impatient person.

Q18 If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be? Just to be a little bit taller.

Q19 What’s your biggest fear? I’m afraid of heights.

Q20 What motivates you at work? A hug and a smile.  The most common words would be thank you.

Q21 What’s one thing you’re really bad at? I’m bad at not being perfect.  I will never be and I don’t want to be, I will continue to be who and what God wants me to be, which is a child of his.

Q22 What’s one thing you’re really good at? I’m good at loving  myself and other’s

Q23 Have you ever met anyone famous? Marvin Sapp.

Q24 What’s a skill you’d like to improve on? My sewing

Q25 What’s your favorite memory? When I won the Excellence Mission award in 2012, nominated by team members.

Q26 What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received? My biggest compliment was when someone told me that  I made them feel special.

Q27 When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a gymnast or an actress

Q28 What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends? I enjoy spending time with my family,  watching television, and also riding my bike with my baby granddaughter

Q29 What’s your favorite holiday? Thanksgiving.

Q30 Can you speak more than one language? No, just English.

Q31 How would your friends describe you? Quiet and reserved. I do love to laugh and have fun with my friends.

Q32 Are you an introvert or an extrovert? I’m just a little bit of both.

Q33 Do you like roller coasters? No way too scary.

Q34 Do you have any phobias? YES, CRICKETS.

Q35 If you could play an instrument, what would it be? The piano or violin

Q36 What’s your favorite season? Fall I love the changing of the leaves

Q37 What’s your idea of a perfect day? When the sun is going down and I’m still moving around on the earth and seeing the sun going down that’s the golden time of day.
