A Healing Journey

Learning to Heal, Learning to Thrive

Lisa experienced a lot of loss at once – the death of her mother, her husband, her father, and her business. “I didn’t think I needed you guys,” Lisa says. “I just kept thinking, I got this…I can handle this.”

But Lisa found herself consumed by grief. She explains, “It was like there was this other person inside of me that was getting lost in it all. I was learning how to survive, but not heal.”

That’s when a friend suggested she call Harbor Hospice and ask about grief counseling.

“The healing part is what Harbor Hospice is so great at, and you need the healing part to thrive, not just survive. Having a counselor with so much knowledge, experience, and empathy has helped me unravel it all and I truly believe I am becoming a different person.

The staff understands where you are. They understand the tough spot you’re in. I would say…just call them. Try grief counseling. It might feel like it’s hard, but it isn’t. After you go the first time, there is a feeling like you can give a big sigh of relief. You can breathe a little easier.

The resources and the kindness and flexibility — it has all been wonderful.”
