Finding Comfort at the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence
Time to Rest, Reflect, and Be Supported
After 13 years of caring for her husband, Ken, Kelly Crocker found herself physically and emotionally exhausted. Ken’s Alzheimer’s disease had progressed to the point where he was incapacitated, unable to do much beyond walking. Despite her deep love and determination to care for him at home, Kelly reached a moment when she knew she needed help.
An unexpected health crisis led them to the emergency room, where Kelly faced the difficult reality that Ken was at the end of his life. Knowing the compassionate care her father had received at the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence years earlier, Kelly chose to bring Ken there for his final days.
“I wanted Ken to be somewhere he would be cared for as well as I cared for him,” Kelly shares. “The Poppen House gave me that peace of mind. I could be with him when I wanted, while also having the support I desperately needed.”
At the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence, the care extended to Kelly as much as to Ken. The nurses understood her exhaustion and encouraged her to rest, taking over the overnight care so she could finally sleep through the night for the first time in weeks.
“They cared for me as much as they cared for him,” Kelly recalls. “That was probably the best thing. I could be there for Ken without feeling like I had to do everything alone.”
Ken passed away peacefully 11 days later, surrounded by love and supported by a compassionate team. For Kelly, the experience at At the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence was not just about saying goodbye but also about finding a sense of peace and support during one of life’s most difficult moments.
The Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence provides care that extends beyond the patient, offering families like Kelly’s the chance to rest, reflect, and focus on love during their final moments together.
