Connecting Through Music

Creating a personalized hospice care experience with music.

Bringing Back Happy Memories and Creating a Sense of Well-Being

Think about a favorite song and how it makes you feel. Our music therapist goes through that process with a patient, using information about their culture and their life to create an experience around music for the patient that can be deeply personal and bring back good memories.

Talking about song lyrics and even writing new words to songs can help inspire a patient to think about relationships and events in their life. Singing with others can create a feeling of togetherness and help relieve anxiety and the fear of being alone.

Good voices are not necessary—it’s the process of connecting with a patient in a meaningful way that counts. Often patients who have not spoken in a while begin tapping a finger or a foot, nodding their head, or mouthing the words to a special song.
