The Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence

A welcoming alternative when home is not the best option.

Why Choose Our Hospice Residence?

When receiving care at home is not the best option, for a person in the final stages of their life, the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence can be a welcoming alternative. It offers a warm home-like environment with 14 comfortable, private rooms and around-the-clock staff who attend to each patient’s special needs.

Poppen House staff and volunteers demonstrate the unique vision of Harbor Hospice—to make each patient’s final weeks as good as possible while allowing families to focus on spending time together without the stress of also having to be a caregiver.

Hospice Care For the Whole Family

When a terminal illness keeps a patient in bed most of the time, it changes how they experience life. Recognizing that perspective, the Poppen House was built from the view of each patient’s pillow. Each of the 14 patient rooms offers comfort and peacefulness, so both patients and visitors can relax.

Family members are invited to spend the night with their loved ones, right in their room. A cozy sofa sleeper offers closeness and comfort. If they choose to go home to rest, they can do so knowing someone will always be watching over their loved one.

The grounds and gardens at Poppen House are picturesque year-round. Walking paths offer quiet areas with access to nature and are large enough so we can wheel a patient’s bed outside when they want to enjoy a little sunshine and fresh air during warm weather.

The residence is easily accessible from US-31 or I-96 with The Lakes Mall, Meijer, and other stores nearby.

How to Pay for Your Stay

Hospice care at the Poppen House is covered in full by Medicare and Medicaid. Most private insurance plans include a hospice benefit where deductibles and co-pays may apply. A daily room and board fee is charged, which may not be covered. Harbor Hospice Intake Specialists will provide patients and families with information about insurance benefits and community support funding available to those who need it.

What Is Respite Care in Hospice?

If your loved one is enrolled in care with Harbor Hospice and you need a little time off, the Poppen is available for respite care. We welcome your loved one for a mini stay for up to five days and nights, and we provide them with the same personalized care and medical attention as our full-time residents.
