Art therapy promotes comfort by tapping into and revealing an individual’s deepest thoughts and feelings in a non-verbal context.
Art Therapists combine the use of art materials, psychotherapy, and the creative process to take a client on a journey of self-discovery and insight. For those who find other forms of therapy difficult or ineffective, art therapy can be an excellent option to utilize as an alternative method of expression.
Our board-certified art therapist, Amy Hamman, helps to enrich the lives of patients and families through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship. We honor each individual’s values and beliefs and assists with emotional, creative, and spiritual growth.
What is involved in an art therapy session?
- Based on clinical assessment, our therapist will develop art therapy sessions to encourage client self-expression and establish objectives and goals for sessions.
- Patient will use various types of visual art, including drawing, sculpting, painting, clay modeling and others as appropriate.
- We collaborate with patient and family and other health care/community providers, to encourage understanding of the impact illness/condition has on the patient’s emotional and mental/behavioral health.
