A regatta race and challenge raising funds and awareness for the Harbor Hospice Foundation
The Harbor Hospice Regatta, a Muskegon Yacht Club Tradition
What an incredible day we had at the 17th Annual Harbor Hospice Regatta on August 14!
Although a bit more wind would have been ideal for our sailors, the sun was shining brightly, and the Muskegon Yacht Club community came together with remarkable generosity.
Thanks to everyone’s support, we raised over $22,000. With a dollar-for-dollar match in memory of Jeff “Bubba” Allen, the total amount surpassed $44,000! In total, supporters of the Harbor Hospice Regatta have contributed nearly $500,000 in support of Harbor Hospice’s programs and services.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers, the Muskegon Yacht Club staff and members, and the entire community for making this event such a success.

History of the Judy Miller Memorial Skipper-to-Skipper Challenge
In 2007, when the Harbor Hospice Regatta was still just a vision, Harbor Hospice board member and Muskegon Yacht Club sailor, Nancy Crandall, encouraged us to involve fellow Muskegon Yacht Club member, Judy Miller.
We quickly learned that Judy was a wonderful and willing source of energy and information about the Muskegon Yacht Club sailing world. On race day of our first Regatta, we were just starting to grasp the language of sailing and Judy showed up with a laptop and assistants, ready to help us make the Harbor Hospice Regatta dream into a reality. Judy was in her element and her generosity helped establish the Harbor Hospice Regatta into the annual event it is today.
Between years one and two of the event, Judy’s health declined. She was no longer able to help, but her spirit never left the event. Following her death and to honor her memory, the committee asked her son, Scott, to endorse and establish the Judy Miller Memorial Challenge—encouraging boaters of all vessels to support and raise awareness for Harbor Hospice’s programs and services.
